Ye Shiwen and american/british unsportsmanlike behavior

i have long pointed out the total absence of civilized values among modern westerners, in particular among british and americans.

they provided further proof of this when they attacked 16-year-old swimmer, gold medal winner, and world record breaker, Ye Shiwen, of "doping", yesterday (you can find more western viciousness here, and many other western media outlets)

on what grounds? nothing at all! she in fact has a completely clean record. nor is her improvement in performance extra special. holder of record she broke (by just 1sec), stephanie rice, displayed much bigger improvement when she established the record. so have others. iow there are no grounds for any accusation.

other than westerners finding her achievements "astonishing"! 

yes, westerners find great performances from non westerners, a crime. 

esp so if they are the ones losing out due to the performance concerned. contrast that despicable attitude with west's justifiable adulation of their own teenage and/or extraordinary performances from likes of missy franklin this year, michael phelps in 2008, and others through the years.  

 

this is true not just in sports, but with regard to achievements in art, science, technology, business, war, etc, etc..

[btw when it comes to substantiated cases, west leads the world, both in number and in profile, of athletes concerned, in doping.]

all excuses advanced by westerners for raising questions about Ye can be raised about many western sportsmen/women. so questioners should answer why they did not raise them before with regard to ppl like rice, phelps, etc. 

while west will get temporary relief for their bitter frustrations from such claims of sour grapes, they are of course not going to get real lasting benefits, if their targets, and world at large, stand their ground and expose the baseness of western attempts.

i think the target here, Ye Shiwen, in spite of her youth, will prove herself during this olympic games as well as during a long and successful career. 

in addition we as observers should not stay silent in this case and at other times when vile western character displays itself.

as i have said here before, while keeping solid records of their filthy behavior for future, we must also expose and confront the racist scum aggressively, in whatever capacity we have, however small or ineffective at present. 

civilization was/is/will be maintained by individuals doing the decent thing in face of baseness and barbarity.

i tweeted on this earlier but in case anyone missed, here is wikileaks video of u.s. helicopters killing ppl and reporters in iraq in 2007. details are in the video. its authenticity has not been disputed. (warning : some may find this disturbing.)



as far as i can see no major western news media organization has posted wikileaks video in their main outlets in full (in blogs/cnn ireport/etc, yes, but not in frontend)

on sunday americans also admitted that their coalition forces had a role in killing of some afghan women in february. there were many other similar incidents in the past.

meanwhile american installed and later elected afghan president hamid karzai has continued to condemn international coalition's disregard for civilians casualties.

he has also claimed that westerners are responsible for the fraud in recent afghan elections. he even named alleged main fraudsters; peter galbraith, american former deputy head of the un mission, and philippe porillon, french former head of european union election monitoring team. (the story is also available in non western media w/o the pro western anti karazi spin. i selected a western source so that reader can decide what is spin and what is not therein)

there are claims of fraud in recent iraqi elections too (anyway why does results take so long (weeks) to be released in both those countries? in sl they come out within hours and the process is open).

my thoughts
now i fully support american war against terrorism and use of military violence in the process.

i am also aware of the almost certain possibility of accidents, as well as outbreaks of indiscipline, criminality, and insanity, in some members of military in spite of all the best efforts of political and military leadership, and institutional precautions.

what i cannot stand is hypocrisy.

why is sri lanka and sri lankan military accused of all sorts of war crimes in its fight against ltte tamil tiger terrorists (with almost no credible and authentic evidence to back up the charges) while western government aren't (even with much more solid evidence for their alleged crimes)? accusations are certainly not made on the same level.

even when they are made there is a telling difference in how accusations are framed; it is never the 'americans', 'british', etc., or their governments, who are committing 'war crimes' but some specific soldiers, 'bad apples', etc., but in accusations against sri lanka it is always 'sri lankans', 'sinhalese', 'tamils', and sl government, who are committing the alleged war crimes.

all that is due to double standards, hypocrisy, and yes, racism .

of course realistic sri lankans expect that sort of treatment from west. we know we have to fight our own battles and cannot expect west to act with justice and fairness to us. look at the pathetic predicament and treatment of karzai for what happens to ppl who depend on west.

that is why we should not allow those hypocrites to assume some sort of fake moral superiority in order presume to pass judgment on us. we have to aggressively confront them with facts and truth and reveal their hypocrisy and presumption. it may not have any effect on them, but we need to make our position clear; they have no right to judge us.

but there are born and paid slaves here who see no such double standard in behavior of the west in spite of evidence. that sort of filth believe the best about their masters in west and worst about us. its about time sri lankans at large treat these as they deserve. i for one has always done that.

it displays excellent grasp of reality and history of sri lanka's fight against terrorists and the lessons that other governments can draw from it .
that grasp of details is unlike most of foreign coverage which are either superficial, or downright biased towards ltte terrorist pussies, or both ( esp when it comes to media institutions like bbc that hava an ingrained leftist (or as they say in america "liberal") bias.)

american democracy sending america down the toilet?

it is illuminating experience to observe the american election process.

there is election fraud in large scale even before the election; people are allowed register park benches as addresses. mickey mouse, dead gold fish, and 7 year olds, among others, can register to vote. same person can register multiple times. election officials are not allowed to use available resources like databases of voters to verify questionable registrations. voting machines as usual don't work. all the votes are not counted, etc etc.

(sri lankan electoral process is not perfect and is low tech, but they get the processes and procedures right, way better than americans. for instance, i for one has trouble changing my voting registration from my former residence to current one because of the procedures involving letters from grama niladari etc. that has to be followed. sri lanka also has some common sense procedures like ink, seals, numbering, etc to reduce fraud and increase efficacy of counting. here to commit fraud you have to expend huge (relatively speaking) amount of money and sweat. in america organizations like acorn do that with part time workers paid at an hourly rate.)


then we have biased media. america's media (baring one cable channel(fox news) and few news papers (wall street journal etc)) are usually biased towards "liberals" ( word means leftists in american politics). this year they go beyond that, they are so completely in the tank for barack the phony that they are in serious danger of drowning ( literally. all the liberal newspapars and networks are losing readers and audience )
few examples only -

• they go after so called "joe the plumber" using illegally obtained private data just because the fellow asked a question that elicited a revealing answer from obama who showed up at his front yard. ( they of course failed ask the question themselves )
• they look the other way when a lone anchor women in a local tv station ask tough questions from biden and then get banned by obama for her and station's efforts.
  
• they publish idiotic smears (some sexist and down right disgusting) against palin and her family and send legions of shit sniffers to alaska, but actively suppress existing evidence (like video of obama with kalidi) that can hurt obama and do not examine his radical record and associations with terrorists.
• they ask school friends (found through facebook) of mccain's adopted teenage daughter for dirt on cindy mccain but ignore the very real cocaine use (a crime) of obama.
• etc etc.

all this in addition to unbalanced coverage of real issues ("retribution of wealth" is not socialist!?) or electoral process ( ignore polls that show race is tighter, highlight polls that show it to be a landslide for obama)

i am not talking about some far left website or papers, (or even lunatics at cable channel msnbc), all of the above were done by such media outlets as, new york times, washington post, los angles times, abc, nbc, cbs, cnn, etc. etc. rupavahini and daily news can now compare themselves to these without blushing in the least.


of course, all this, while having an effect, will not be responsible for the election result, anymore than in any other country where election fraud take place and where media is biased.

as i have said before, election results can only be controlled in places where one party has means to completely, or almost completely, intimidate voters, and has complete control over media and electoral machinery. it is only in authoritarian criminal states like ussr, cuba, north korea, nazi germany, and regions like terrorist ltte controlled areas in sri lanka that those conditions prevail.

in all other places, voters themselves are responsible for the results (even if the result is not to their liking), either by voting for that result ( with, or without, getting informed adequately to make he decision) or by neglect (by not voting, registering, or not being vigilant).

so ultimately if america elects a closet socialist,

• who has done nothing to show he has the character or experience necessary for the job,
• whose foreign policy is nothing but an immature, premature, and irresponsible, surrender of america's (irritating but necessary for rest of the world that value democracy and capitalism) leadership of the world,
• and whose economic policies (if carried out) will only help america's ( and world's) economy further down the hole it is already in,

it is american public that will be responsible.
they will get what they deserve. (unfortunately so will the world.)

do americans in a panic mood about economy want to give up its leadership of the world and ideas? and think they can protect themselves with trade protectionism, socialism, continuous apologizing, and defeatism? and want to follow europe to stagnation and slow relative decline? that is what they will do by a vote to obama.

or do they want to stand tall, win, and lead?

they should look at what happened to other former world powers when they just gave up. it will take time for effects to materialize but it will not be pretty for americans.

hopefully obama will not get elected, but that is unlikely according to predictions markets; they give 85%+ chance for an obama win
more likely american public will flush their own country down the toilet on november 4th 2008.

olympics and petty americans (and non americans)

why americans feel so insecure and act petty is beyond me.

but they are. their news media and blogs are full of this shit . finding all sorts of petty faults with olympics, that others (and they themselves if olympics were held in another country ) will simply ignore. its a "show" (in every sense of the word) for devils sake! what next ? criticize chinese martial art films for using stunt doubles and "camera tricks"? petty and ugly.

their disgusting pettiness feed itself on and thus trivialize even serious concerns regarding china, such as its human rights record, tibet, etc .

after all these did not materialize out of thin air. these issues have nothing to do with olympics except in the minds of insecure americans and like minded westerners ( and their slaves in other countries like relatives of indi padashow, sanjana hattotuwa and other such ngo sleaze bags, born ass lickers who gobble up without a murmur everything excreted by their paymasters ).

these issues were there for a long time.
if west want to raise them (hypocritically since west, with usa leading, do not have a clean records themselves, quite the contrary ) they can, but keep the olympics separate. even dalai lama who supports beijing 2008 gets that, but petty americans do not .

btw let me make it clear, i am not accusing all americans, but only ppl who act in this petty way, which unfortunately seem to be large.

and as i said i don’t get why they act so.
they are the sole super power and the biggest economic power, and will remain so for a long long time . they live in a prosperous capitalist liberal democracy ( at least most americans do. if you are an american belonging to a minority or a non white foreigner, that is different, but i am talking of average american citizens and their opinion leaders ) .

whether or not, chinese stage a successful olympics or even if chinese get more gold medals ( which i doubt will happen this year in any case, though not sure) will not change any of that. nor will such achievements change the fact that china is miserable place ruled by a totalitarians dictatorship. so why be so insecure ?

as i said i don't get it, and it is so ugly and disappointing .

anyway hopefully it will stop as they get the reality.
we will see whether they will do so and have grown up, when they stop posting medal tables ranked according to number of total medals ( gold+silver+bronze) (instead of ranking according to gold medals number) as almost all the news sources which cater primarily to americans seem to be doing at present ( reason - china has more gold medals (end 08/16/08)). i mean that is primary school stuff.

usa as a country and its citizens in general are relatively speaking better (in almost every sense of the word ) than others. certainly better than china at present. rejoicing at any humiliation of americans by chinese or others ( as lot of idiotic non americans do) is petty and ridiculous. and even short sighted. (btw i am not against rejoicing at achievements of national teams or admiration of individual athletic feats, i am speaking of something different here).

israel should (probably will) "bomb" iran soon

if they have the capacity (most ppl think they have) israel should attack and "take out" iran's suspected nuclear facilities soon (as in before end of year). imo they probably will.

there are several reasons.

• obviously attacking after iran has developed a nuclear bomb is silly.
• waiting for "diplomacy" to succeed has failed, again obviously. while usa and rest can take the risk of waiting, israel cannot. iran's n-bomb = bye bye israel (sooner or later).
• high probability (65% chance according to futures market prices) of obambi winning and thus putting even more pressure on israel to fruitlessly wait than bush administration.
• iran's present capacity to respond will only cause limited damage to israel itself. iran's missiles (it has them, silly photoshoping was just to show it has more) are inaccurate and targets in square kms not meters. as such with conventional warheads they are less lethal than terrorist suicide bombers; a threat israel is well used to.

as such, israel if it follows its own best interests (as any state should), should and probably will attack soon.

but what will be the consequences of that attack, on the rest of the world?

that will depend on rationality of iran's leaders. if they are sensible to their own interests, rest of the world has not much to fear.

in that case, iran will not attack americans directly, or close the straits of hormuz given the likely terrible repercussions on themselves (such actions and american response will be costly to americans too, but iran will get the worst of it in the end). in this scenario iran will fire off several missiles at israel and will stop at that. (it is already helping terrorists to attack israel and americans so there wont be any increase in that front anyway).

worst that rest of the world will have to suffer, will probably be a week of very high oil prices. in fact imo attack will be beneficial in the sense it will take away one cause of instability (i.e. constant speculation about the israeli attack - iran's missile tests increased oil price by $6 on last thursday) in the region for some time.

of course if iran's leaders act like crazies all bets are off. but that is unlikely. for one thing, iran is not quite a dictatorship, it is a theocratic oligarchy. more people there are in leadership, less crazy and thankfully more selfish decision making will be.

will israel's leaders have the balls to do what is in their best interests? we will soon see.

iran and nuclear weapons
i was deliberate in avoiding the question of moral right (so to speak) of iran to have nuclear weapons in main post.

in the opinion of most, nobody (including usa) has a moral right to n-weapons. but that is irrelevant and naive. in reality it is in best interests of usa to have nuclear weapons given world history and politics. similarly, it is in best interests of iran to try to have them, and of usa and israel to try to prevent iran having them.

most of rest of the world's (i.e. those who value democracy and capitalism, aka individual political and economic rights - including sri lanka and me as an individual) interests coincide with usa's for the most part, and to a lesser extent with israel's.( however there is no harm in playing iran against others to milk both sides, as sl already do).

american elections - my selections

long term readers of this blog will know that i have expressed a preference for john mccain as 2008 american presidential election winner for some time. i have not changed my opinion .

however given the complex absurdity of american election process he may or may not succeed. so here is a list of current and potential candidates listed in order of my preference.
