today united states of america elected the path of stagnation and decline, as i expected in my last post. it also gave up its leadership in the battle of ideas.
(i for one am not celebrating. people who think we should celebrate just because america at long last outgrew its racial prejudices, are only expressing a more subtle form of racial prejudice without even realizing it . martin luther king jr. dreamed of a society that is blind to skin color . people who use word "historic" today do so because of skin color. obama the phony should be evaluated and judged on his character and policies.)
usa freely and democratically chose stagnation and decline,
america has chosen the same path that europe selected after world wars. but unlike europe it was not forced on america and imo is way too premature. anyway america will suffer the same fate; slow relative decline (baring occasional emergence of a thacher or a reagan who may stop it temporarily).
can decline be stopped?
permanent change to this course of decline is unlikely unless americans change their minds massively in the next four years and elect an ideologically pure conservative. in reality however a pure ideological conservative nominated (a possibility if republicans really try ) is likely to go down in a massive defeat. anyone else elected, even from republican party, will only tread in obama's footsteps. after four to eight years of leftist administrations it wont be possible to change course even through a pure conservative, he or she will only be able halt it temporarily.
to be clear, this is not all obama's fault; he is just the active and fitting symbol of americans' desire to give up ... sorry "for change" .
its their choice and they will deserve what they will get.
short term results
in addition to long term implications, i have no doubt that results of obama election will be soon evident in the short term as well. world and americans will not like them.
in this regard ironically world is likely to see an obama acting just like bush on foreign policy at first, to the surprise of world at large ( after all non americans are even more pro-obama than americans ). obama will do that mainly to prove (dishonestly ) his critics wrong ( who say the same things about him, i said above). but since he will be acting without conviction he will ultimately fail. ideal test for him ( and for my prediction here) will be his reaction to iran's attempt at a nuclear bomb.
the real loss to world
for the rest of the world, the greatest loss today is the loss of idealogical leadership of america
no longer can anyone look to contemporary america as an example of a successful free society that value and celebrate individual freedoms. it is now just another half baked socialist state. and like most third world countries ( and unlike most of europe) up to its neck in debt and getting more so. shame.
principles of individual freedoms and capitalism will have to stand on their own merits. i of course think that they can and will prevail. but ... it is alway good to have an example (even an admittedly imperfect one as america was) .
those ngo types (peacenik or otherwise) who receive american money to prescribe solutions ( economic and political ) to sri lanka and other countries should realize the hypocrisy and untenability of their situation.
advocacy of all solutions are welcome in democracy. and when they are solutions that are based on market forces and individual freedom i personally support them. but such advocates should not be receiving payments from a country that no longer believes in them, has given up implementing them, and cannot give moral support for them.

usa freely and democratically chose stagnation and decline,
- by electing a leftist who believes in increasing the role of government both in economic and social lives of its citizens,
- by electing a person who is willing to admit moral defeat (even as usa is well on its way to military and political victory) in its wars and by that, and other ways is willing to give up its so called leadership of the free world,
- and by electing a person lacking in personal leadership qualities and has consistently and deliberately chosen the path of least resistance in his political decisions.
