physical interference in fake 'peace' activism is idiotic

today peaceniks, defeatists, ltte apologists, and a whole contradictory mishmash of people with various agendas held a 'peace ' march and a 'rally' in support of appeasement of terrorists. though to all appearance poorly organized, poorly attended, and unsuccessful, as usual, they managed get disrupted by some idiots.

media reports indicate that there was even some physical scuffling on stage. it is not clear who is responsible for all that. given that several unstable politicians from both government and opposition like dilan perera(upfa), rajitha senaratne (unp), vasudeva nanayakara (upfa) were backers of this march and that another one well known thuggish upfa politician from colombo mervyn silva and some warmongering monks, were allowed on to stage this was to be expected. at this stage it is not clear whether this was a concerted attempt at disruption, and if so with what motives. whether it was due to some people getting annoyed at the intention of the rally, a publicity stunt by the organizers , a political stunt by warmongers , a personal vendetta between colombo upfa politicians or any combination of above and other motives.

given the above facts i will not comment on the specifics in this case but confine myself to general observations.

as i said in the title i consider physical interference or banning of peacenik, defeatist, and terrorist apologist activism idiotic. they and their ideas are so hypocritical, naive, or vague, that they cannot ever hope to get any credence in the real world. all that is called for is continuous exposing of that hypocrisy, nativity, and incoherence.

after all, what intelligent and moral person is going to accept handing over of millions of sri lankans to ltte oppression, depriving them of human rights, freedom, democracy, and justice, in the false unrealistic hope that we will have 'peace' here in colombo.

let them them have their insensitive, tin eared, protests, marches and the rest of it, while people are sacrificing their lives in the north to bring real peace. there is no better argument against them than a photo of them engaged in such idiotic activity in colombo. so let them do that without physical interference.

Well, the banner unfurled by the people who climbed onto the stage (monks?) said something along the lines of "Go To Kilinocchi And Do This Peace March"

I have to say, I really can't argue with that. This peacenik folks really should have gone to Kilinocchi to do their thing, but they're hypocrites. Funny thing was the "Anti War" people turned out to be pretty damn violent.

Mervyn Silva was supporting the march.
If not for the politicians and their thugs, there wouldn't have been a crowd at all. With them came the violence.

who was behind the distruptions? any recognisable faces? :)

When I saw Mervyn Silva on TV I literally laughed. I do not believe for a moment that this man has the country's well being at heart; his particpation - or was it leadership of the rally in the first place? - took away what little credibility this rally had.

The Monks should have known better. When they were being beaten, I was just shaking my head - this is what you get when religion and politics mingle too closely.

As for the people who caused the violence - great job, idiots. Didn't they know a million cameras were on them and any reaction that was remotley violent would render the whole rally meaningless?

Sri Lanka is becoming dumbass vally.

morquendi - You accuse people of passing judgment on what they see on tv, but how many people were actually theer or involved witht the protest to know what it was about? The people who didn't know about it and the international media only have the tv images on which millions and maybe billions of people will pas judgment. Everybody needs to be aware that their actions no matter what will always have consequences.

The Army is fighting an enemy - they didn't create an enemy for kicks and giggles. That is the purpose of a ntional military - to safeguard the nation from threats domestic and foreign. SO, the peaceniks really should go to the heart of the matter right? SHouldn't they protest against the LTTE? Why you ask? Because, if they were to stop - who would the fighting be against?

Also, how can anybody ever justify handing over millions of our citizens to the control of someone who fancies himself a god? Case in point refer the article Fear Factor at Lankabusinessonline.

Sun Tzu said "Know thyself, know thy enemy, you shall win a thousand battles"

In Sri Lanka, you must also add, "Know thy enemies friends, who live along sides and who at the critical juncture, supports the enemy".

We will see many a "peace march", "Peace rallys", "Peace Drama" in the coming weeks in Colombo. In fact, if you look at the number of "peace events" that were held in Colombo during the last few years, one can be forgiven for believing that Prabhakaran lives in Colombo and the LTTE headquarters is located somewhere near the Lipton Circle.

There are many supporters of terrorism. They come in all colour. Some are "intellectuals", some are "human rights activists",some others are "civil society stalwarts" [never knew that there was a uncivil society], some are "humanitarian workers". They all have one thing in common. Everytime the terrorists are in a corner - militarily or politically - they use all their talents and efforts to drag them out and make them look respectable.

I too agree with the banner "Go to Kilinochhi and Do this Peace March". However, I think those who opposse LTTE terrorism has to behave bit more smart. What happened today , I did not see any footage so I only have the records on the net to go by, is actually god-send for these "peace marchers". Now they can go around with their hat collections to get more money to beat the war-mongers.

Just as much as we fight terrorism, we must fight these terrorist sympathisers. But that has to be done much more methodically.

hypocrisy always leads to ridiculous situations. :-)
anyway the arguments against them should be made only in a non physical manner.

sri lankan:
you are probably right about the thugs and the crowd.
i think mervyn silva's participation says it all.

~cc~
jss ? not quite clear

theena
almost completely agree with you.
except may be about monks in politics. they have a right to do that.
but you are right, they are not serving buddhism by that quite the opposite .
in other words they are free to be idiots.

morquendi
as always i have to ask you to read before commenting.

Does quoting from yourself make you feel important?
that is your main objection? :-)
i like to refer to my former posts. anybody who wants to learn what lies behind any statement can then check .

You clearly know nothing about what the rally was about and who the rally was organised by and who was there.
see the post. i think i know enough to know what said there is true.

You see a few images on TV and sit on your ass and pass judgement on it.
so what did i missed . all the boring speeches advocating appeasement, defeatism etc. using same old arguments ?

I guess the facts would blow your theories to bits so it's better to ignore them.
what facts? why not share them ? if there are any facts contrary to what i wrote :-)

as usual after running out of arguments you resort to name calling

You got JHU membership yet?
:-) lame.

procastinator
How come you weren't on stage at the march along with all the other robes getting beaten?
WHY do I visit your blog? Shall not waste my time any longer

read and you will understand. at least the title.
you are free to do what you wish. i am not a terrorist who forces you to do things against your wishes.

that is what naive ones forget.

thanks for the link .

What an odd combination.

Pacifists?

Asking protestors to protest in Kilinochchi where the actual was is going on is an extreme act of violence, but beating them up is pacifism?

If anyone's true colours were exposed it is of the "pacifists". How peaceful are those who cry for peace. LOL.

I suppose that's what peace activism in Sri Lanka is about. Mervyn Silva, Rajitha Senaratne, Dilan Perera and a bunch of drunken pacifists.

Galleblogger needs to get his head out of his arse.

I don't like to express my all views here, since I've mentioned it here

To answer some of the comments here;
Zigzag, I raised the same question on my blog some time back, why these people cant push LTTE to stop violance.

Sri Lankan & Theena,

We all know who Mervyn Silva is. But, I'm wondering why he's in the same camp with Sirasa TV this time. Anyways, its bloody politics! Mervyn Silva was the supplier of thugs to the event. And I'm wondering whether those were real monks!!?? Their bodies were so fit like they spent 3,4 hours daily in a gym to keep the shape. Not, the typical 'joll" body type of monks. How ever, I haven't heard a word yet from JHU that, these monks were their members or not.

[Moron] Morquendi,

Are you upset about sit'nut not linking to your posts, to make you feel "THE" sri lankan political blogger?

And do you know anything about what LTTE realy is and how much our armed forces have to sacrifice to save you a country, go for a "Peace march" walk around the town? You see few images on Tamilnet, and pass your judgement about SL Army, and protest against them?

You got LTTE membership yet?

oh man. just a complaint? why not have an anti-mal rally or get your peace prince mervyn silva to cut me up?

keshi :
morquendi never had it :-)

galleblogger:
if you consider morquendi and co.mere pacifists as opposed to ltte bootlickers you are much mistaken .
marchers were not pacifists either given their behavior and their stand of appeasing ltte

btw if you want to make comments about just mal blog posts do it there. why do it here ?

just mal
you are right
marcher were certainly not pacifists .
galleblogger is naive.

pissa
wonder were malaka was .

voice_in_colombo
thanks for the comment.
agree with most of what you say here and in your blog on this.
and about morquendi :-)

morquendi
so you have again descended to calling anyone opposed to you racists and other names? huh instead of answering the point i made above in reply to you.
given your antics some time ago in this blog i doubt anybody can behave worse than you in a blog.

thank for the photo.

I've seen lots of Buddhist monks (bloody rich ones too) who used to come to Fitness Kingdom and Austasia gyms in SL.

Oh btw, there's a new name for them.

The Battle Monks have Returned!!!

I was wondering how long it would be before they unleasehed thier awesome power.. It's been so long since the last battle monk strike, and the power of the battlemonks have grown considerably during that time..

I am suprised they waited so long to display their skill in battle..

You cannot resist the power of the monks.. You simply have no chance..
You have NO chance to survive.. make ur time!!

wow.. nice.. Now we can have battle nun's to serve as the auxilliary forces of the Battle Monks.. Anyway, this will just mean more forces lined up against the LTTE as the Battle monks soon take on the tigers in the apocalyptic final battle to end all battle.. The Battle Nuns will be a great addition to the Holy ranks of the Baldness..

Surely the LTTE will be utterly crushed and defeated, for none can stand against such Holy Might...

BBC picks up the term too

All thanks to Anushka Kellapatha aka Damlurker.

btw I read this in papers here too...i read 'peace process in SL turns violent with flying robes etc'...cant monks just do what they r supposed to do - like stay inside the temples w.o. trying to live a 'gihi jeevithya'?
