usa starts on the long road to decline

today united states of america elected the path of stagnation and decline, as i expected in my last post. it also gave up its leadership in the battle of ideas.

(i for one am not celebrating. people who think we should celebrate just because america at long last outgrew its racial prejudices, are only expressing a more subtle form of racial prejudice without even realizing it . martin luther king jr. dreamed of a society that is blind to skin color . people who use word "historic" today do so because of skin color. obama the phony should be evaluated and judged on his character and policies.)

usa freely and democratically chose stagnation and decline,
  • by electing a leftist who believes in increasing the role of government both in economic and social lives of its citizens,
  • by electing a person who is willing to admit moral defeat (even as usa is well on its way to military and political victory) in its wars and by that, and other ways is willing to give up its so called leadership of the free world,
  • and by electing a person lacking in personal leadership qualities and has consistently and deliberately chosen the path of least resistance in his political decisions.

america has chosen the same path that europe selected after world wars. but unlike europe it was not forced on america and imo is way too premature. anyway america will suffer the same fate; slow relative decline (baring occasional emergence of a thacher or a reagan who may stop it temporarily).

can decline be stopped?
permanent change to this course of decline is unlikely unless americans change their minds massively in the next four years and elect an ideologically pure conservative. in reality however a pure ideological conservative nominated (a possibility if republicans really try ) is likely to go down in a massive defeat. anyone else elected, even from republican party, will only tread in obama's footsteps. after four to eight years of leftist administrations it wont be possible to change course even through a pure conservative, he or she will only be able halt it temporarily.

to be clear, this is not all obama's fault; he is just the active and fitting symbol of americans' desire to give up ... sorry "for change" .
its their choice and they will deserve what they will get.

short term results
in addition to long term implications, i have no doubt that results of obama election will be soon evident in the short term as well. world and americans will not like them.

in this regard ironically world is likely to see an obama acting just like bush on foreign policy at first, to the surprise of world at large ( after all non americans are even more pro-obama than americans ). obama will do that mainly to prove (dishonestly ) his critics wrong ( who say the same things about him, i said above). but since he will be acting without conviction he will ultimately fail. ideal test for him ( and for my prediction here) will be his reaction to iran's attempt at a nuclear bomb.

the real loss to world
for the rest of the world, the greatest loss today is the loss of idealogical leadership of america

no longer can anyone look to contemporary america as an example of a successful free society that value and celebrate individual freedoms. it is now just another half baked socialist state. and like most third world countries ( and unlike most of europe) up to its neck in debt and getting more so. shame.

principles of individual freedoms and capitalism will have to stand on their own merits. i of course think that they can and will prevail. but ... it is alway good to have an example (even an admittedly imperfect one as america was) .

ps
those ngo types (peacenik or otherwise) who receive american money to prescribe solutions ( economic and political ) to sri lanka and other countries should realize the hypocrisy and untenability of their situation.
advocacy of all solutions are welcome in democracy. and when they are solutions that are based on market forces and individual freedom i personally support them. but such advocates should not be receiving payments from a country that no longer believes in them, has given up implementing them, and cannot give moral support for them.

The USA's long road to decline and pariah status which started in 2000 will hopefully end from Jan 2009.

The same people who elected an idiot/ moron like George Bush have overwhelmingly voted to elect an intellectual as their president for the next 4 years.

America had lost its status and respect in this world and hopefully Obama will do something to regain it.

Well I do notice that a lot of people are hugely in favour of Obama... and I'm talking about people outside the US.

But we can never really know what's really going. Until its in the history books... if that's put down honestly.

Bullshit...Bush's policies are what has lead to the decline that I lived through. While I don't believe in all of Obama's policies he was the better choice in candidates (especially given Sarah Palin's idiocy). Abe Lincoln had the same lack of experience that Obama has but he was one of the greatest presidents of this country.

How is cutting taxes for the middle class and not for the rich socialist? Since when do only the rich deserve tax breaks?

Sittingnut… I’m not even going to waste my time responding point by point to you post, after a certain point.. you become a lost cause. My only suggestion is that you should change your blog title… ironic that you have the dictionary definition of the word Libertarian right on the title, and you write the way you do….

Mostly on-target, but too kind, and certainly missing some reality here.

America will not survive to see another election. You are correct, it is not entirely the fault of Obama, those wheels were set in motion thru GWB and longer, but Obama will finish us off.

America is doomed. Just wait. 2009 begins the fast track to legalizing 12-20 million people (illiterate in their native tongues, let alone English) who are incapable of doing much more than running a leaf blower. The only question is where to go? South Korea? Ireland? It's getting to the point that the only places with less economic freedom are overtly communist, as opposed to America's covert communism. The dumb shits have no idea what they just elected.

@ Annonymous - "Just wait. 2009 begins the fast track to legalizing 12-20 million people" - those leafblowers can probably steam forth America into regaining some stability as a production economy

@ Libetarian - "no longer can anyone look to contemporary america as an example of a successful free society that value and celebrate individual freedoms" - thats a load off BS. in the sense that anyone who looked to america as an example of a 'successful' free society was deeply flawed.

I do agree that Obama is "believes in increasing the role of government both in economic and social lives of its citizens" and im with yuo there that that would not be all that wise.

As for the 'libetarian'. i think you should drop that act cos you're not fooling anyone.

you should change the title of your blog... you sound like anything BUT a libertarian. In fact you sound very much like a right wing, government minded, control freak!

thanks for the comments, i will respond in due course if required
i don't have time to respond to anything else at present but ppl who make the accusation that i am not a libertarian please cite any evidence ( say a quotation taken from above post ) to back your silly claim. if you cannot do that ,you know you are spouting a idiotic lie, to cover your own lack of coherent arguments against what i said in the post
i am referring in particular to anon at 11/05/2008 10:23 pm, TheWhacksteR, and anon at 11/06/2008 12:03 pm .

will these ppl have the bac bone or ability to respond to that challenge with any more coherence than they displayed in above comments? that is if they dare to respond at all ?
don't bet on it. i know their type
lol

Well only reason being that you seem to be leaning really hard in the direction of the conservatives. They might have focussed on reducing the role of government per se, but were hardliners on society, esp issues like abortion, emmigration. does not sniff of openness and maximazation of individual rights to ME, Mr. Libetarian!

Read this article by Roubini, the famous economist who predicted the present financial crisis.

http://fabiusmaximus.wordpress.com/2008/08/18/roubini/

It would appear to me that America has been in decline for the last eight years. Whether Obama's policies can stop that decline is another question.

As for saying that more government intervention will lead to worse outcomes, that is pure classical economics. It doesn't always hold, as the world found out in the 1930s during the Great Depression, which in turn led to the rise of Keynesian economics, the saviour, which called for greater government intervention. The circumstances that led to the Great Depression are very similar to the present circumstances of the world, which is why governments in all the major capitalist economies are paradoxically nationalising and intervening.

The free market works, but sometimes it fails. When there is market failure, it is the government's job to intervene. Obama, for example, believes that the free hand in the U.S. healthcare market is failng to provide the best outcome.

There's really no-where to decline.
The neo-cons dragged it down to rock bottom.

The only way the US can go is up...and when that happens, the GOP has only itself to blame for screwing it up so badly.

TheWhacksteR said...

@sitting nut - whoever gave you that name definitely got it right. i responded to your comment reiterating that u seem no libertarian to me. was merely qoting your initial comment calling for responses. meh. no need to resort to below the belt retorts like insulting one's articulation. focus on the point

as i said quote me, to support your arguments, that i am not a libertarian. as i have explained before i have never supported politicians for being non libertarians rather on evaluation of their policies and no real politician is a pure libertarian one has to choose from the available.
btw you should know that in both right to abortion and in immigration to america a libertarian case can be made on both sides of the issue.figure it out
