terrorist attack underway in galle

it seems there is some sort of attack on navy camp in galle.

three suicide boat attacks on an 'old ship' (and some navy boats according to military spokesman) and some mortars were fired from rumasella hill according to igp. both say that situation is under control and military trying to capture terrorists. no need for panic. police curfew on in galle.

combined with recent pussy attacks, this shows clearly exactly who do not want peace talks to begin and want to provoke a backlash. i personally expect pussies to step up attacks in a desperate bid to get that backlash and it will certainly include attacks against civilians as well true to form.

fortunately sri lankans are more intelligent than that and will not be provoked, in spite of best efforts of ltte propagandists and its ngo helpers like cpa, inform, and the rest, who try to portray them as ever ready reenact '83 and try to magnify small riots into genocide attempts as with april trinco incident. however ngo peaceniks will remain deliberately blind no doubt.

mod, nationalsecurity.lk, jasminenews.

update
changed links to updated stories at respective sites. deleted original afp wire story since it was old and wrong. updated ones can easily found by searching.
and there wasn't any mortar fire it seems.

Well both side have been going at it recently, so if one can take the current govt at their word that they are willing to talk despite all the recent military activity, then IMHO the fact that the LTTE are also conducting attackes, does not necessarily mean they aren't willing to talk.

I think real problem is that, fairly or not, the goverment has lost the high moral ground carved (with some loss of face to the "sinhala nation") by the previous UNP govt. The moral gap between the two parties, as perceived by the international community, has been reduced under MR tactics, and this has given the LTTE a greater degree of freedom in their actions.

The government now needs to say, "damn what anyone else thinks, let's go all out for a military victory" (no doubt bankrupting the nation in the progress) or swallow shit and trudge to the negotiating table in a weakened position. Either way it's lose, lose for the nation.

Damn good too, I don't think it deserves any better.

"An indefinite curfew has been imposed in Galle but there are reports of riots targeting shops of the Tamil minority."

Spoke too soon?

you get the whole thing wrong recent attacks will not change a thing of significance . ltte and the government know exactly were they want to go. it only exposes the peaceniks hypocrisy and blindness when they claim ltte will seriously talk.

some points:
Well both side have been going at it recently
for one thing ltte made attacks from december to april and government did not. so to believe that if government stops ltte will stop is not valid.

if one can take the current govt at their word that they are willing to talk despite all the recent military activity,
gosl is (and in imo rightly ) not going to make any concessions to ltte unless ltte will meet certain conditions like stopping attacks etc. which will not happen. this attack will not change that . it will only show ltte does not want to stop attacks giving lie to peaceniks spin.

The moral gap between the two parties, as perceived by the international community, has been reduced under MR tactics, and this has given the LTTE a greater degree of freedom in their actions.
care to explain how you came to this conclusion? there were more bans on ltte since buffalo came to power than before. don't believe the ltte propganda. its the facts that matter.

The government now needs to say, "damn what anyone else thinks, let's go all out for a military victory" (no doubt bankrupting the nation in the progress) or swallow shit and trudge to the negotiating table in a weakened position.
how exactly does attacks weaken governments' negotiating position? care to explain. are you saying they weakened the military to the extend that government is willing to concede anything? dream on.

Damn good too, I don't think it deserves any better.
i suppose you prefer handing over millions to ltte oppression so that we can have peace here ? as i said dream on .

Spoke too soon?
not at all. there wasn't any rioting, few idiots may have tried but there was police protection. bbctrue to form runs with unconfirmed contradictory reports.

I guess in this instance your use of the word 'pussy' refers to a weak person and/or coward. If you are quick to label the Galle attacks as cowardly, I am afraid that you do not know much about how the Sri Lankan government runs its military operations.
